Depth? 6, maybe 7" max. Will it pick up jewelry? Yeah, but the item has to be within 3" of the search coil.
Cost? If I had to guess, this instrument probably ran me $4.50. When you buy in bulk, components run for pennies. Magnet wire is relatively expensive. You can find this in old motors. etc.
Education: PRICELESS!
Hopefully within the next few weeks, I'll find some time to work w/ my arduino & prototype something a little more practical.

Yes, that's actually a rake lol. I couldn't resist, so I went out for an hour & found a few scraps (all within 2-5" ground level). I also found a spoon, but forgot it!
Already started on a PI detector. Hope it digs deeper!
