I have searched google to no avail. Does anyone have a clue what this piece may be ? It was found at a revolutionary war battle site. But there's a good possibility that it's much more modern than the rev war. It has a nice patina and is puzzling me. Thanks image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Almost looks like a safety lever for a gun. Does the top have knurling or grooves cut into it?

The top is smooth. I hadn't thought of that but you may be right. Thanks for replying!

Doesn't look like a firearm part. Looks more like a pawl from a clock-work.

I don't think it's gun related, certainly not muzzle loader, I've built them and there is no part that it resembles. It looks like a cog and a release for something like a come-along.
ComeAlong.jpgNote the ratchet.
