Hey guys, haven't been on in a while, just been busy with work and other stuff, so today I got out for a cpl hours and found a new spot. Ive driven by this site many times and always hesitated to stop because it looked too fancy but its very old. So today I saw the old man out at his barn and decided "what the heck, might as well" Nice guy who has lived there for over 70 years so I figured it had to be good when he said that no one has ever been over it. First target no sooner than a minute after I turned my detector on was a 1919 wheat!, I thought to myself "game on"! a few targets (wheats) later I snatched the 1942 Merc!, a few more wheats later I got the 52 Roosie!, Man I searched frantically for the barber to get the trifecta to no avail, oh well maybe next time! Finished with 16 wheats (oldest 1913) and the two silvers!! along with 3 tootsie cars that I gave to him because he believes they are his 50 yr old sons. My brand new pinpointer performed awesomely in its maiden voyage lol. I only covered the front lawn today because he had to go and I think he wasn't ok with me there w/o him but he said Im welcome to come back anytime. Thanks for looking and HH!! Sounds like a great place! Anytime I find a wheat, I am appreciative. I have given away every tootsie I have found but may have to stop that practice, lol. I went to the Fall Carlisle car show last week and was amazed at the prices some Tootsie Toys were being asked for! I saw one marked $135! Congrats on scoring a good place to hunt. Look forward to your next posts.

yeah I thought about that, but this guy was saying he was thinking about buying a detector and that's kinda how I schmoozed him into letting me hunt his yard because he was in his eighties and I imagine digging would've been difficult for him. I said anything I find youre more than welcome to take, luckily he didn't want my coins lol

Certainly looks like the beginning to a nice relationship!

Good saves!

Hello cjon455. Nice site and finds. I like your style on gaining permission, that is exactly the way I prefer gaining permission...I believe a face to face respectful conversation always gives a much better chance for what we all want hear from the land owner.

Thanks for the post and let us know how things dig out. HH. C9

Nice going!

I searched a new yard a couple of months ago and found a Mercury and Silver Roosevelt on the first trip. I had danced around a seated dime and found it after my 4th trip to the yard. I still have not found the Barber dime though. Its gotta be in there somewhere.

Thanks, but I think my technique needs work, I drive so far to get to this area because Its rural and I for some reason am super hesitant to seek permission in the town I live in, I have this thing that makes me think rural people are more receptive, and im probly missing out lol

some of my wheats are early early 1900s so I figure theres a good possibility of a barber there

You have to be thick skinned in this hobby.

Right when I get used to asking permission someone is kind of rude to me. Yesterday, I stopped and talked with some guys standing in front of some old houses and asked for permission to hunt the front around the sidewalks. The guy that owned the houses acted like he had better things to do then to talk with me. The other guy was talking about the fact that if you don't get permission around "this town" your liable to get shot poking in peoples yards.

I noticed that different towns have different attitudes. I seem to do better in the larger cities, but people are weary of someone knocking at the door. In a town north of me, they are pretty proud of their homes and history and there are a lot of people from other areas/states moving in and I typically don't get permission a lot of times.

Cool finds ... People can be a hole hos , I ha permission to hunt a yard [ actually a few yards] If I picked up small visible trash around the front & sides of the homes , anyway the homes were built from 1910-1924 but not in the best part of the city " ATL" Not far from where the Atl, Braves play & to the Police known as ZONE 3 ,also Featured in my rap songs ; the neighbor"HOOD" does not look like the slum's ; I hunt these & most neighbor hoods on Sunday Mornings in to the afternoon. Well the not having a CCP " Yet" I just said sorry buddy and left all in all I realize such sites are not worth the hassle . Then I went and found some peaceful Woods to hunt in , the birds & squirrels didn't seem to mind. Sorry for the rant & didn't mean to hijack the thread but this has been on my mind. Peace & Good Day to all.
