My friend and fellow tnetter Lostlake and I went to a friend of mines yard today. Thanks Alabama Fred if you are reading this. Came up with 8 wheats (earliest is 1920), 1 Indian Head ( A really nice 1889 - you can read liberty on headband ), 1 copper pendant with Jesus on it, 2 weird tokens that are advertising the benefits of getting electricity for your house, and 3 silver coins ( 1950 D quarter, 1946 Dime, 1936 Dime). I consider this a very hunt. Of course, I found a pile of clad and some junk.
The prize of the day was found by Lost Lake. It is a Barber Dime 1908 turned into a hair ornament? When he shows the picture you guys will be shocked at how nice it is. A true artist made it.

Thanks for the comments. I am very new at this, so I was very happy with the results of the hunt. I read a post that helped explain why the Indian was in such good condition. I found it about 3" down on the start of a downslope on a hill. From what I understand, the drainage factor helps keep coins in good condition. Interestingly, the house where I found the coin is dated 1890. I tried to take some closeups of the coin. The front is better than the back, but both sides are still very nice. I love the green color on the front.

Jon Dickinson.

That IH is outstanding!!

Jon,

Indian Head should be worth $15 to $30.00, but I would put it in a 2x2 cardboard holder and keep it. Great finds and keep up the great detecting.

49er,

I don't even a coin value book. I started metal detecting to find stuff, not to turn a profit. I will be "selling" my clad coins at the end of the year. Thanks for the info, it is interesting to know that the coin has some value.
