SILVERED SADDLE SHIELD & A CLIPPED COPPER

Decided to spend the day back at the site I dug my one piece CT militia button.I brought 2 machines with me.Since I haven't used the Minelab all that much and everyone sayin how deep it is I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Well after 4 hours a handful of square nails and one rusty saddle shield.I said that's enough and grabbed my XLT.for the most part the site is very quiet & I dug everything.nabbed a clipped copper worn smooth,a designed cloak button,a ornate strap guide and the old key.
decided when I got home to pull out the battery charger and electrolysis the key and shield.what a shock to see the applied hammered silver to the face of the shield :o still has the tongue on the cross bar too.amazing the rust completely engulfed the silvered face of the shield.
think I pretty much pounded the snot out of this site and may retire it

Thanks for the pic Quindy.I have dug a couple like that one but,I'm almost certain the one I dug today is much earlier than the brass ones that were CW era.pretty much everything that came out of this site was 1700's except for my one piece CT button

So I take it your still partial to your XLT over the Minelab? I have thought about buying another machine but am afraid I would always go back to the XLT and the other machine would collect dust.
What's your views Dave? How long have you had and how often do you use the Minelab?

Great hunt , like the finds.

you got it! i hadda blow the dust off the minelab XS. I have had it 2 years now & used it like 4 times and it's now back in the corner collectin dust.I just know my white's machines so much better and very comfortable with them. so you may see the XS in the classifieds soon.

Al here from Rhode Island. I'm partial to Garrett detectors myself but I have used the XS in the past. Before you decide to put it up for sale, shoot me a price that you'd expect for it. Please don't take this the wrong way but Minelab no longer does repair work on these machines. I would have to buy yours plus a few extras for parts. If you'd prefer to keep it, I'd be happy to help you out with getting more familiar with it. I'm in Hope Valley, RI. Minutes from the Connecticut boarder. Do you have a water machine? Are you interested in a trade? I have a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark 2.

Re: SILVERED SADDLE SHIELD & A CLIPPED COPPER

I still think that you need to give that xs a chance....I know that I have a tendacy to resist change myself. When I first got my XS I barely used it as I was so used to the fisher and garretts that I had been using for years but after much trial and error I've gotten to were I feal confident in what my minelab is capable of and for awile I was thinking I would never use anything other than minelabs.....but now that I've seen the T2 in action I'm not so sure.I still would never give up my minelab but it allso never hurts to have more than one tool in the toolbox ether.I think with your case Dave your going to find many more Banner finds no matter what you use.Your attitude and love for the hobby is a major factor in how well anyones going to do at whatever we do in life.

PS.I saw your post "in a relationship" the other day and just wanted to let you know that I would definatly vote banner on that one ! :laughing7: ...have a good one bud ! ;D
