Ok, this is a tester to worn coin gurus. I have a personal idea but will let y'all make guesses. It is ultra thin, details near invisable. Same exact size as a clad dime, even the reed is worn off. I lied...I think it might be a bust. The backside is even less in detail.

I didn't find it myself. I was there to see in in the dirt.

Kinda see a possible Merc now in the pic.

Guesses?

Likely a 1 Reale coin – 18mm.
Even though Reales were not legal to use in the US after 1857, many stayed in circulation for decades after that and were simply used as dimes.

Perhaps a pic in natural light at an angle... might reveal a wee bit of detail, that would confirm the ID.

Not that I have any doubt about DCM's ID.

Congrats sir.

It looks like an extremely worn half Reale to me as well. It should be just slightly smaller in diameter to a modern dime and much thinner. Congrats!

I see an early 1900s Canadian dime..(facing left) not sure why it would be that worn though...then again I've seen some pretty worn barber dimes I suppose...

I think I have figured this puzzle / mystery coin out...

If it's slick (and it looks to be), use a silver acid on it. It's amazing what detail will pop back out. Had a Canadian Young Queen Victoria 10 Cent piece with the back completely slick. The acid showed clearly that it was an 187X dime.

It makes me think of one of those Magic Eye posters but on a coin.

How certain are you that it's silver, and not a knockout from an electrical box

I can see the ghostly bust too...even when inverting the colors and adjusting the shadows, It pops out. Sorta looks like Washington when I messed with it lol.

I would proablly shoot for a Bust if it were silver.....the "bust" to me looks close to a 3 cent half nickel.

any pics of the other side?

I think it is a capped bust dime. Using Google Earth and doing a Image overlay, the capped bust dime has the most matching features the head, mouth, chin, and a lot of the stars are in place with a lot of the features of the Slick coin. slick capped bussed dime.png The first photo is the slick coin the second using a small amount of image overlay. I also tried all suggestions of other coins. but the features didn't match as well as the capped bust dime. 1834-small-4-capped-bust-dime.jpg

It's interesting how some swore it was a right facing reale...and some clearly seen a left facing dime...i say this ID would hold up pretty well in court.
