Went out Monday and drove to a spot that didn't have snow covering the ground. John met me at the spot and we did ok. The ground was only slight frozen to about 1 or 2 in. I dug another Half dollar a 1941 Silver Walking Liberty. Also dug a few drops and a couple nice Eagle buttons. I found a few relics that I have yet to ID. John found a 1890"s Barber Quarter and 3 Eagle buttons along with a couple old pocket knives. This site is a old homesite that was used as a Union Camp. Enjoy the pics. Tsgman

Re: Silver, relics and a ring, Tsgman

Nice....anything on the ring???...Glad to see you were able to finally find something...LOL ;)

Re: Silver, relics and a ring, Tsgman

It's amazing what was lost at these Civil War era sites. Replacement buttons must have been on back order all the time.

I think many were lost when soldiers engaged in a friendly wrestling match to fill the boredom times. Also, I don't think the thread they used back in those days was all that good.

I really like the gun receiver. It would be interesting to know the story behind it.

And too, when hunting these sites one never knows what one will find. What's really frustrating is to be working a Civil War camp and dig a Memorial penny ;D

Re: Silver, relics and a ring, Tsgman

No Gypsy nothing on the ring. Badger, I dig Mem. Pennies everywhere I am at. I am pretty sure you could dig a few on the moon. Tsgman

Nice stuff you found there. ;D Sounds like a great place to hunt. Also sounds like you are a die hard! Not me. I say if it's cold out...the stuff will wait a couple more weeks. ;)

Nice finds, I love those old homesteads. It's crazy like that. Alot of those guys and families who lived in those old homesteads often were a part of some war. They almost always give up something to show you they served.

Like they fought lived bought some land and lost a few buttons and such while doing so. Probably more for you guys to find around there.

Gman you are the man! Can you tell me a little about your methods like settings, kind of
machine, etc. Really nice finds. Thanks for posting. Burdie

Burdie, We use Whites XLT Spectrum's. Normally we will hunt in Coin and Jewelry mode and after we recover items at that depth we will check it over in relic mode. As far as a method I suppose a good strategy is hunt along the old roads. Tsgman

Jer, I know what you mean, at this spot we have found Civil War items as well as World War 2 and possibly from WW1. To me relic hunting is the best because you find a little of everything, coins, silver, etc. Tsgman

Great find's Tsgman, like your style...not to mention all the CW find's you've posted.Quick Q..How do you clean up your CW find's,found a Enfield hammer last weekend and thought you might be able to help me out on this.Any info would be appreciated.Thank's and HH!!

I use olive oil on some stuff, on the rusty metal stuff I clean and apply about 3 or 4 coats of polyurethane. That will seal the metal from the air and stop the rusting process. Tsgman
