Tonight I went back to a house that have detected before, but didn't have time to do the backyard. The house belongs to an older couple, grandparents of a good friend of mine. The Mrs. Gave me permission to dig wherever I want. I went to the back yard, and a few minutes later the Mr. Comes out to say hi. He is in his mid 80's, and a super good guy. He puts a coin in my hand and tells me he found it in his garden a decade ago. It was the Buffalo nickel, it's a little too clean to be a found-in-dirt coin, but I was tickled that he gave it to me. The yard is mostly fill dirt from when they built, in 1959. I was feeling like giving up, but then I got a nice signal, and out popped this little 1892 Vicky. I was pumped to have the year's first fishscale, but then I flipped it over and thought what the heck? Took me a minute to remember the Hong Kong/Britain connection. It's my first 1800's silver for the season, and by far the least worn Vicky I have found. Under the gunk the detail is pretty sharp. Then an hour later I unearthed the memorial cent. Two coins dug in two hours. At least one of them was a cool find.

I still think that it is funny to find US coins in Canada that are dug so often. Living so far south in the states, it gets hard to find Canadian coins, although I have before. We often can pass nickels and pennies off in circulation also, but I think it is because people don't usually know the difference.
Many years ago when silver was $4 an ounce, I would give my buddy a 20 dollar bill and have him buy a bunch of silver Canadian coins when he went to a coin show and they were not in demand like they are now. I always liked the subject matter that are on the coins.

I live a few blocks from the international boundary line, so it's usually an even mix. The little Hong Kong coin is silver, and the same size as a Canadian 5c silver, so I wonder if it was used as legal tender back then.

It looks to be in really nice shape. Hope it cleans up nicely for you.

Well that's a different coin, love it. HH

Sweet silver thats pretty cool

Your Hong Kong Vicky is a groovy coin! :hello2: :headbang: :hello2:

But the old gal is in big need of a spa treatment - facial and the works! :tongue3: Since she's silver I hope to see her pretty face emerge soon. :cat: Andi
