Stayed close to home this weekend as the forecast was for a total wash out. The forecasters couldn't have been more wrong because we didn't get a drop of rain!! I had a nice weekend hitting some of the old spots and managed to get a bit of silver. The take this weekend, the '52 Washington, the '44, '18s and 24s Mercs, the '46, '46d, '49d and '53d Rosies, a "Good for 5 cents" token and the ring that is stamped 925. The ring produced a nice high tone on the Etrac and I stuck it in my pocket thinking I had silver but after washing it I noticed it has a thin plating on it and it is flaking off. Has anyone ever ran across fake 925 ?? Thanks for looking and HH

i had a 925 flake like that, got it home cleaned it up and it was still a 925 ring...i don't know what was with the coating of whatever it was, but it was stamped and came out a beautiful silver. That might be the product of a scamming flee market vendor or something like that.

Ive had a couple of silver pieces with a coating, but under the coating it was still silver. :dontknow:

I had one as well with some kind of coating...it was silver underneath too. Maybe they gold plated it so it wouldn't tarnish?
