Silver Thimble

Hello everyone, Relic Dude here. Loved sharing the complete Rattail spoon. This same cellar hole yielded another nice find.

About a foot down, I found this thimble which I believe is silver due to the fact that there isn't any corrosion. It does have some elaborate decoration, but, no makers mark or .925 denoting sterling.

Would love to here from you folks as to your thoughts on it being silver and approx. age.

I am new to this forum and love reading it. Some very nice, helpful folks including one person who sent a article that helped identify my rattail spoon as being from around 1710.

No offence friend, but not the best picture, if it is in fact Silver it is a nice find. Have quite a few found thimbles myself, but no silver. I would love to have (find) one.

Your MD reading should give a good clue as to wheather or not it is silver ?

Nice thimble! Most likely silver, since I have not seen any aluminum ones with engraving.

I've dug 2 silver thimbles in 20 years, so treasure the memory of that great dig. I'd say mid to late 1800s on that one, but closer, better photos will tell more.

Oh man the days of old when I used to find those. I found all of mine in a two year span then they just stopped. I think I have 6 to my name not sure I have to count when I get home. Or I have an older posting of them.

Nice thimble, could be early. All the ones I find are either flat or broken...Nice find.

I would say silver. I have found a few of them and they read silver on the t2. I have also found a few copper ones. Nice score.
