SILVER STATES QUARTER

S means San Fransico, If I am correct. Then the D on Coins means Denver and P means Philidalphia. Silver was only in quarters and dimes up until 1964. the Mintmarks stand for what city each coin was made in. Not weather it is silver or not. Not trying to be mean, but that is just What I have learned.

Correct on the mint marks. However, the state quarter series was available in clad or silver for the proof issue.

Thanks for the correct info on this coin.Bob

The S mint mark state quarters only came in proof or uncirculated sets. Someone must have broke one apart. S mint marks also could be silver, check the edge. Nice catch.
