Hi Guys,
Just found 2 stubble fields that haven't been replanted yet.
Amongst other things (photos coming soon) I found this fancy bit of hammered silver work.
Looks to thin to be a spoon but you can see where it has snapped off. It is curved like a spoon - perhaps for tea leaves maybe. Nice design - Hammered not pressed.
Here are the pics - any ideas most welcome:

Thanks.

One half of ice tongs or salad bowl tongs? :dontknow:

The angle at where 'stem' has broke off to the 'bowled' part is almost at a right-angle - I don't think it would be useful as part of tongs - thanks for the suggestion though.

Maybe it's a Sugar Shell spoon .

Yep, Sugar Shell Spoon looks good - just can't find anything on the net that looks like (and is as thin as) this one. Thanks.

...Or maybe bread tong?...
See how the stem joins the end on those tongs - almost a straight line.
Look how this is at an angle:

2 of these together just wouldn't pick anything up!

Asparagus fork :D
Now they are nice! Would love to dig one of those up! They yours?
I think I'll go with a fine hammered-silver sugar shell spoon - The surrounding coins where mostly late 1700's to early 1800's so I'm guessing this may be of similar age - too pretty to put into the melting pot!

No not my forks. Didn't even know there was such thing as asparagus forks. I still think yours could be one. The appear thinner than a spoon and also not completely cupped like one.

Cool find and silver always keepers :icon_thumright:

Nice Idea but it wouldn't deliver much punch - This is only about 3cm wide by 4 cm long.
