Beaches are combed on all coastal oceans daily, probably more so along the Florida coast and southern California, probably seconded by Texas and then the eastern seaboard...

The best beaches would be where the most people collect....especially where the water is warmer...

Rule of thumb: Rich people wear jewelry...Malibu, Balboa or Newport Beach in SoCal......look for where SoCal or Florida 'Blue Hairs' congregate... :laughing7:

In California, the beaches from Santa Monica / Malibu down to San Diego would be the best bet...

Santa Barbara is fair, however as you move westerly and north the water becomes colder and less inviting...

There are several beaches either side of San Francisco Bay and northward to the border that have consistantly produced gold and silver coins...

The channel islands such as Santa Catalina are always good areas too...

Since you are looking for good advice, if you are detecting on any beach and you wear Speedo's...the potato always goes in front...

Thanks Stefen about the potatoe advice. I'll be sure to remember that ;D

I have found many nice gold rings including diamond rings my wife now wears in the water and sand on Florida beaches. Wish you luck. :icon_thumright:

Would that be Mr. Potato Head? Mr. Potato Butt?

Aw, heck, maybe I'll just stick to Bermudas.

Threw that in to see how many people actually read a post... :laughing7:

Everybody loses things at the beach...the poor, middle class and big bucks...always go where the big bucks are...the diamond are real and the gold is 18K...

Has anyone ever metal detected at the ocean and found anything good. I'd like to get some advise.

Someone in my MD club found a ring at one of our many ocean beaches. He thought it was junk and drove around for a few months with it in his cup holder. One day, a few months back he finally got around to stopping into a jewelers store. He handed it to the jeweler, who examine the diamond with his loupe. He knew by the jeweler's reaction that he had made a big mistake. The jeweler called over his staff to see the ring.

The ring was appraised at $20,000 dollars, so YES there is treasure to be found at the beach!

Wow! That is really an awesome find.
Have you or anyone else out there reading this post ever found anything old on the beach like some old Spanish coins?
Is it true that the best time to look for old treasure is during the winter months because of beach erosion?
I'm really interested in find old relics.

Just wait till you find your first gold. There is nothing like finding gold. :hello2:
