Silver Ring Marking

I found this silver ring today at the perimeter of a football field. It rang up as a strong quarter signal (84) on my DFX. The marking inside of the ring is: STERLING - ESM Does anyone know what the ESM signifies?

Maybe the initials of the former owner? Just a guess.

It may well be the manufacturer's mark...or hallmark. I just found a sterling ring and it was marked MH Sterling. I found out that it was made by Moore and Hofman in Newark NJ....1915-1922
