Been detecting for a few years with another kind of machine and decided to get an SE Pro to try out this year. I was patiently waiting for the ground to thaw, spending my time reading about the machine and watching Youtube videos, hahaha. Anyways I got out for a few hours and pulled over 50 clad coins, 2 junk rings, 3 wheats,Museum of the Rockies token, my first ever Susan Anthony dollar, SE's first silver coin (64 rosie), and a silver whatsit. It looks like some sort of container or vessel, but not sure. It is marked sterling and the flower end of it is crushed and looks like at one point it was more of a bulb shape. The open end of the whatsit has crimps like it was either hooked to something or plugged with something. It is small and reminds me of a snuff bottle, but that is just a wild guess. Anyone know what this is? Thanks for looking and any help you can give on ID. Love this machine, the deep signals are a lot stronger than I am used to.
HH!

I'm at the shop now, so I don't have time to search the pattern, but off the top of my head, I think the pattern is 'Poinsettia,' which was used by several makers with variations on the flower, as well as variations on the name. Many of the handles of silver flatware are hollow, so this could be the handle to a knife. Nice find, Breezie

:hello:

If I hadn't seen the threaded part on the bottom, I would have said posy holder. So I will agree with me old mucker Breezie :icon_thumleft:

Are there any makers marks on it, I would love to know, it's a paticular interest of mine :icon_thumleft:

Breezie is absolutely correct!
That is the handle from lets say a spoon. The spoon part is then inserted into the Silver handle using a special high temp wax.
That peice is from no run of the mill flatware set that's for sure

No offense intended. I am only trying to be helpful. The end of that item seems not to show threading. I think what you're seeing is just parallel "rings." Threading always begins with a tapering ridge. Can't see any tapering, just ordinary ridges/rings.

Wow thanks a lot for all of the replies! I think that it is too small to be a handle to a piece of flatware, but after searching the internet for manicure sets, I am leaning towards it being the handle of one of the manicure tools. thanks TNet and all of the helpful people.

After better looking at the size comparison to the coin (which I didn't study this morning), it looks too small to be a vanity dresser set handle or a knife handle. I think we all thought the handle was longer than it is. With that being said, I've changed horses, and am going with a Silver Manicure Set handle. What is the actual length of the handle? Breezie

Yes I did see your link, thanks. It is similar, but not the same although it is likely the same purpose. You said in a post you have seen a handle exactly like this?
