So I got permission to hunt this early 1920's house. There's actually two houses but only have the time for the one right now.

The first night is when I found the 1930's California canning token. I asked the guy that owns the house if anyone was from Gilroy and he said that his grandad used to live there. Then I proceeded to ask if he worked in a canning factory. He said how'd you know? I said I found his token in the ground the first night. It was a cool kinda of a feeling to know the origin of the token and who possessed it. I also got a 46' silver quarter.

Last night I started night two. I got a 35' Merc right off the bat. Followed by a 52' rosie and then a 64'. I found a season high 9 wheats. All ranging from the early 40's up to 51. I hope I have time tonight to go again. I also found a lock with the initials RFD on one side and MAIL on the other. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks for looking.

Re: Silver Honeyhole

Nice haul on the silver and wheats. I love finding places that produce a bunch, when you can find them ::)

Re: Silver Honeyhole

Nice silver haul congrats.

Re: Silver Honeyhole

The lock is for a mail box. RFD stands for Rural Free Delivery, found in less populated areas i.e. out in the country. Congrats on the silver and wheats, looks like a great spot. Enjoy it, those places are harder and harder to find and get permission to hunt. HH

Re: Silver Honeyhole

How do you know that the token is from the 1930's? Looks older to me, but then again, so do I when I look in the mirror. Could you clean and re-post? Please?
Carl
By the way, you have one of the better site names.

Re: Silver Honeyhole

More cleaned up pic's of the California/Gilroy Canning token.

Hey,

Does anyone know the dates on the lock? I presume its from around the era of the thirties coins. And the city in which I found it is not rural anymore. Also what was the lock used for? Locking your mailbox up? I assume if it was from a rural time why would the mail needed to be protected?

Thanks for the closeups of the token. Now, any history known about the canning factory? (Still looks older than 1930's)
