DSC00792.webp found this at the entrance to an old abadoned cemetary dating back to civil war period....took to a jeweler to see if he could pull out any details...the front is a lady similar to a merc and there is 3 stars on the left facing her but not much else is legible...he tested it and it was pure silver.as you can see it's smaller than a quarter and bigger than a dime.one other thing the jeweler said was (he is also a coin collector) was it had no ridges around the edges as modern coins have...thanks for any help..:dontknow:

What is the diameter? What does the other side look like? The image shown looks very much like the one on the obverse of a V nickel.

Only one problem with it being a "V"..... they were not silver as stated. Their composition was .750 copper and .250 nickel. If the jeweler knows anything at all, he would not have made this mistake. A coin collector would definitely have recognized a V as well. I would either change my jeweler or look at the coin as something other than a "V". Good luck in your hunts.

it was an old slave cemetery from civil war and the decendants continued burying there until after world war 2..finally all were either deceased or had moved away and the state declared(even with a posted sign)the cemetery was legally closed for burials...loggers in the area discovered a few tombstones while working in the area and contacted authorities who immediately closed the area to all logging.it was roped off and approx. 25 grave sites were positively id'd.archeologists came in and confirmed the place as an old slave cemetery due to historical records of the area...I am familar with this area as our deer hunting lease includes this spot...

Since you marked it solved, we can assume you had it tested again for silver and it came up negative?
