Sharp looking coin! It's a good bet that one was only recently spent into circulation from a collection or old stash.

The coin was in a very dirty condition when received. A good rub down with some Never Dull cleaned and shined it right up :icon_thumright:

That's cool, part of the fun I think is trying to figure out how things got to be where they are found. So maybe a dusty old roll of Q's rolled in the 80's? With one random silver Q? I dunno.

Always nice though to get back more in change than you paid (well, I'm a cheap skate I woulda bought the nasty $1 cheese burger anyways...)

Congrats, It's always nice to start the day with a silver coin in your change. It reminds me of a story that happened some years ago. The company I worked for was building a house down the road from the office of a camping facility and when I went there to buy a sandwich for lunch one day the lady/owner behind the counter started complaining about the local kids spending half dollars. I offered to buy them as I collect them for a rainy day and I watched her go through them keeping the occasional Franklin and I couldn't help but think "she has no business complaining about the kids" .

Anyway, she sold me ALL of the Kennedy's she had not knowing the 1964's were silver. there were quite a few 64's and about a half dozen 65's thru 68's as well. I couldn't help but feel this was poetic justice especially since she had been complaining since day one about the noise we were making building the house. But the worse thing was that as far as I was concerned she was taking advantage of the kids knowing as she received them that some of the half dollars were in fact silver.

I didn't mind separating her from the silver halves, she deserved it. I wouldn't have minded a few of the Franklin's as I've never found one with a detector so far, it's one that I've been waiting to find for almost three decades now.

one better. (and no one is going to believe this with out a pic- sorry/ it was 5:30am- I didn't take one)...at mcdonalds for breakfast on my way to work this am I saw a nice fat gold coin in the ronald mcdonald house donation thing. I asked the kids on duty - hey I collect those dollar coins (it was too fat to be one tho!) he was like sorry man only the people who empty those things have a key for them...oh well. saw gold but couldn't get it. :P at least I asked to see if I could trade them $4 bucks for it... ;D

I'm not mad or anything, I was given a 1954 quarter at a mcdonalds on my way to NJ one time. guess the kid there thought he would give me the worst looking quarter he had... and I was happy to take it! :icon_pirat:

guess no one educates these kids about silver, I'm not going to start telling them about it. :laughing7:

I think in these tough times, people are going into change jars and stashes and spending the coins without really knowing! Great find!

I love it when that happens! Got some change a couple years back at a mini mart owned by a fella from the middle east. Heard the perfect tone hit my hand and heard more in the till. Only had three more paper dollars on me, so I asked for some quarters for the car wash. 11 out of the 12 were silver! Is I was walking out, I heard him pick up a coin and drop it in the till...turned around and took a quick glance to see him holding the quarter and inspecting it. :)

Nice!

A couple years ago I had dinner one evening at a Mexican restaurant. I paid in cash and my change was $.32 which they gave me, I held it in my hand as I left the restaurant and it felt different ,heavier than what it should be, I looked at it under the streetlamp and the dimes were black, they were tarnished mercs! Three of ’em! I should have gone back and asked to break another buck for dimes, because the latin workers at the restaurant had no idea they had a roll of dimes in their register. Has not happened since, but they’re out there!
