Picked this up yesterday, a 1901 silver dollar, for $5. Someone must have encased it in plastic for a paperweight or something like that. I am wondering if I should try to break the coin out of the plastic?

I wouldn't break it out. get an old pan, (garage sale) place it in there and slowly melt it off, when you can get the coin out,
let it cool, then peel the rest of the plastic off

boil in water...get nice and hot...remove, and dump in ice water...snap....coin in hand.

I'd try to melt the plastic. Worth a try. ???

I was at a ys one day and they had a old funky looking trophy with a coin in the top for 25 cents. I Saw in the coin field in god we trust so I bought it not knowing what it was come to find out it was a worn Morgan I actually got a $1 for a quarter at a yard sale. People just don't pay attention. Get this I saw the item at the sale in the am later went back with girlfriend and it was still there it was then I noticed in god we trust and said what is a quarter? A Morgan for a quarter is insane. ???

I belive the "plastic" around this coin , is probably acrylic. I am not sure how a person would safely remove the coin. if .... that would be the owners desire. good luck, and nice find
