looked at it with loupe
saw design - so took close up
found about 75 yrds from where oxbowbarefoot found his oak tree coin
I would say easily 1700s but maybe 1600s - design is crude
it will go in my colonial finds display

Awesome find my friend. How do you know it is a cufflink? I wouldn't have had a clue. I truly mean that is a question for my own education, not as a dispute on it's use.:icon_thumleft:

back has a loop - usually your ovals are cufflinks (I have found brass/bronze ones this is my first silver) - there would have been another with a piece connecting them - the other part is probably out there
though - this area was full of Indians - an indian could have been given this piece by a colonist (or could have taken it from a colonists -there was a massacre near by)and he could have put that crude sun design on it

heres another thought - this could have been use as currency too
I have found other "bit" pieces of silver in surrounding towns
a bit piece was a small piece of silver - usually cut off of or from a coin
and was supposedly worth a pint of ale
I have one cut from a cob and another cut from some other piece of silver
who knows- but it is a possibility

Awesome silver piece! I would not have known what that was! Congrats!

Amazing Casper! I can't wait to see if someone can date it. Its incredible that that section is still coughing up the goods after the number of coils we've put over it, nice find! Good opening volley for we Field of Dream Hunters in our friendly detecting war against out Northern Neighbors!

Well played Sir,

It's nice to see that there's a design on the piece and it deserves a place in the display case.

that cufflink is about the size of your hammered - maybe a hair bigger - - I saw the edge and thought that's what I might have
then I rubbed the back and felt the loop and knew I had a cufflink
