The Order of the Daughters of the King

The emblem of the Order is a silver Greek Cross Fleury inscribed, Magnanimiter Crucem Sustine,

the watchword of the Order,

meaning

"With heart, mind and spirit uphold and bear the cross."

NOTE: "When a member dies it may be buried with her; otherwise it must be returned to our National Office." You probebly have a rare find!!! They seem to be controlled items!

Also see this!

"The emblem, never wavering from the original design, has been trademarked for the exclusive use of the Order. The cross is worn at all times. It is customarily worn on the left side over the heart or it may be worn on a silver chain around the neck, but it is never to be worn simply as an ornament. Only a member in good standing may wear the cross of the Order, which remains the property of the Order. When a Daughter dies, her cross may be buried with her or incorporated into her memorial; otherwise, it must be returned to the National Office.

If a cross should appear for sale on eBay or you should see one in a flea market and you purchase the cross - the National Office will purchase that cross from you and pay shipping for you to return it to the National Office. The cross ALWAYS remains the property of the Order."

Your wife may want to keep it but please be aware that it is not your property. It has ALWAYS belonged to the Order of the Daughters of the King.

How is it not his property..........he found it. Just because somebody says it is theirs, does not make it so.
Seems a better case could be made for ownership of an engraved ring that was lost than this item.

the above statement provides the information to show how it does not belong to anyone but a daughter.

i am a daughter of the order. this is a very special cross it is placed on you the day you takes your vows of prayer. even as a daughter the cross does not belong to me but to the order. we upon death have two choices for the cross. buried with you or returned to the order for someone else to use on their journey in prayer. sometimes family is not aware or just dont care or understand how much the cross means to the member. below is a statement from the national order. please consider doing the moral and legal thing an return the cross.

I H S (latin for )-- in hoc signo --- in the sign of the cross , we shall conquer. * (evil)

it is a religious item most likely for lay women (like a nun in the catholic order would be ) as such it would belong to the religious order and not the person it was in effect "loaned" for life to --the order allows for it to be buried with the person if they die --- otherwise it is to be returned to the order --as its is in effect --legally their property ---most likely the item was lost by a member long ago at the farm house .

as a religious item for a nun basically it would be wrong to wear as "jewelry" and thus basically it would be useless except as a "trinket" to sit in a box ... to wear it means basically your a member of the order --you would in effect be posing as a "daughter" (nun) of the order..not cool.

as they say --they will pay a small amount for its return and postage to prevent it from being destroyed for scrap metal -- I don't think you will get rich off it however.

If it had someone's name engraved on it, I would bend over backwards to get it returned to the family. Being that it doesn't, I personally would keep it. It's a nice item to display.

I think we're mixing "legal" with "desirable". You can get the "VW" hood emblem tattooed on your butt and Volkswagen can't do much about it unless you try and pass yourself off as a product or representative of the company. Possessing a trademarked item is not illegal. Everything you own with a corporate logo is a trademarked item.

VII. Crosses for Sale on the Web

It is the policy of The Order of the Daughters of the King® not to bid on The Order’s
cross if found on Ebay! or elsewhere. The National Office cannot reimburse any
purchase of The Order’s cross. However if members come across the Order’s cross
on Ebay, a yard sale, flea market, or elsewhere, they are strongly encouraged to
convey to the seller that this cross is a United States registered trademark and as
such it would be appropriate to return it to the National Office in Woodstock,
Georgia immediately.

Note that the Anglican (Church of England) and US Episcopal Churches do not have "nuns". This is just a lady's club within the loosely identified Episcopal Church.

Don't mess with the Daughters. They probably sent a wetwork squad to get their pin back.

It is a religious order

"Note that the Anglican (Church of England) and US Episcopal Churches do not have "nuns". This is just a lady's club within the loosely identified Episcopal Church."

I beg to differ on both points. One, the Episcopal and Anglican churches (both very clearly identified with constitutions) do indeed have nuns. Two, the Order of the Daughters of the King is not just a ladies' club. The Daughter takes a vow to a life of prayer and service. Feel free to read about it on the website.

I beg of you, if you do find a cross belonging to the Order, kindly do the right thing and send it back to the national office. It may be a nice trinket to you, but for the Daughter that lost it, it truly is a treasure she has been instructed to take care of while on this earth.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Welcome to TreasureNet.
I have found this is a great community of people.
In most cases, that I have read here, where there might be a possibility of returning a found treasure to
an owner, or possibly a relative, it will happen.
Cheers, Mike
