Western & Eastern has an article about digging Silver in San-Fran, and the guy says he dug 60 silver coins in a year. (good)
Then he said that this probably does not seem like much for those back East where most people probably get that in a Month.
I want to know how many of us "Back East" really get 60+ Silver coins a month..
Or have you found this in ANY given month in the last "5 YEARS"

I have come close, once or twice, But, VERY HARD TO DO. you gotta find a completely untouched site ? ? ? ? ? A quick Glance Of My Records for 1999 ?, 42 for June ?, 192 total for the year, ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?& 2002, 51 for may & 120 for the year. ? ? Didn't check Fruther.

I'm sorry, I misquoted the article, it said he had found 60 in a year, but that

"While this may not seem a huge accomplishment to
many readers, especially those East Coast hunters who can easily find that much in a month"

Torrerro, Haven't dug 60 in a year though I got nearly that in one month one year. Far too sparse for me. Last five years my best month netted a dozen silver, mostly dimes, mostly mercs. I hope he doesn't mean the midwest by "back east" because San Fran is a lot older than No. Il. in terms of "modern civilization" I'd guess.

Found a great cluster of barbers about ten years back. They just kept coming and I hunted day/night until I cleaned the spot to my satisfaction. Loads of silver, all in a small parkway stretch and the neighbors there all got to know me by name. Wasn't going anywhere until I got 'em all. They come far too few around here these days.

Around here if you find a cluster of silver it's most likely more recent than you'd like but it all shines nice. I would not be surprised to find that there are great areas (caches notwithstanding) for large quantities of old coinage still around. I'd also bet they don't last long once located.

October was my last silver fling. Two barber dimes, one barber quarter and a buff nick in one day. All within 100 feet of each other. Had there been more there, it would be listed. The quarter was a foot deep. Of course springtime is near and by June I should back into the occaisonal silver.

I got about 30 silver at one virgin site from May to the end of last year and about 8 others at other sites during the same period. Like you said, it takes a virgin site to get a whole lot.
