!!!!!!! Post a photo of the opposite side if you can, that is old silver. Where are you located?

I'm located inbetween torquay and newton abbot

Your post will get some replies today, I'm sure one of the experts will be able to ID....lettering suggests medieval, the design on reverse with cross and shield looks similar to some groats Tudor era that have been posted. I am by no means an expert on hammered silver, but plenty of guys here are, can't wait to find out. Damn nice old find for your first!

I'm so so so excited to find out more thankyou for your reply and this is why I love detectoring xxxx

Nice a Henry VIII hammered!

Ps. Need its diameter, but pretty sure its a Halfgroat.

Obv: HENRIC VIII D G R AGL Z FR
Rev: POSVI DEV ADITOE MEV
Mint Mark - Arrow - 1526-44.
Halfgroat (assuming its circa 20mm?)

Thankyou so so much crusader I'm so happy, any idea the value not that I would sell it? Xx

£50-100. (Maybe a bit more on the right day)

However, to put it in detecting context;

We have found 100s of hammered & of this types I only have 2 in the collection. Both of which are not as nice as that example. Do not clean any further.

Big congrats on a fairly scarce first hammered, odds were you should start with an Ed I or Lizzy.

Grid that area well.

Dang Cruisader I knew you'd I.D. this coin with barely a glance!

OP great job finding a 500 y.o. coin. I hope you find more.

When you have my experience, a glance is all you need as it is a very distinctive type of coin.
