silver coin?

its a Elizabeth II coin, New zealand 1986 has a bird with a long beek on the back is it silver?? it read as silver on my garret, sorry no pic .. please help me out on this

Meanwhile, I'm guessing that it might be the New Zealand 20 cents coin depicting a kiwi. If so, the metal is a copper-nickel alloy, not silver.

You say it reads as silver? What kind of metal detector? A smashed soda can can read as a silver coin.

The detector only reports on the conductivity of the target, not it's composition. It could just as easily said Gold if it was a little lower in conductivity or a little deeper in the ground.
