Hey guys, I found this 1920 silver Canadian dime and this cameo piece metal detecting at my brother-in-law's early 1800s farm in Northern Maine. I really love the cameo and I was wondering if anyone can put a date on it. The actual cameo stone seems unusual to me and almost seems like it could be made out of native stone. Thanks for looking and any info is appreciated!

Wow what a beautiful cameo and who doesn’t love silver. You’re right the stone is very unique I hope someone knows more. Congratulations!!

yes, very beautiful. congrats on the sweet finds

I'm so jealous, I've been trying so hard to find an old Canadian dime like that. Nicely done!

Amazing cameo, so nice

Thanks all. I was very excited when I saw the silver edge of that dime about 7 inches down. I thought the cameo was a small piece of trash at first but once I put a little water on it and saw what it was I almost forgot about the dime!

The cameo is exquisite ! Cant tell from the pic ,what the stone is , possibly a jasper of some kind regarding age ,I think later Victorian is right (1870 to 1900) I would be very happy to find a beauty like that ! Nice .

Congrats on your finds,,
Does the back of the Cameo have any engravings or hallmarks. Can we see a picture of the reverse?

The second picture shoes the back of the cameo and the back of the dime. There are no makers marks at all on the cameo. The silver around the cameo looks hand worked to me but I'm no expert. One thing that I thought was interesting was that color of the stone the cameo is made of. I'm not from Maine and one thing I noticed up here were really dense rocks of a similar color. My young boys collected a few. I will try to post a photo of one when I get a moment later.

Ok, here is the picture of the stone that my kids found in Maine. I think it looks similar to the cameo stone. The rock itself is very dense and heavy, along the lines of granite. Anyone from up that way familiar with this type of stone? Is it ever used in jewelry? Thanks!
