Found on top of the soil in a modern group campsite. I am not certain that it is made of silver, just that it is silver in color. My brother thought that the 925 mark is a reference to 92.5% silver, IE sterling silver. My buddy thought maybe it was a cap to a cigar case or something. I initially thought it was aluminum, but after looking at it more, I think it may be silver (it registers as silver on my Titan 1000XD for what that's worth).

Did a lot of searching - seems like the silver "pill box" always has a "hinge" on the side to hold top and bottom together. Now, I did find a large number of round boxes (without hinges like your example) and they tended to be Pill and/or Trinket boxes.

Possibly a lid to a rouge pot or powder box (cosmetics). Circa 1900.

Cool find.

I'd LOVE that to be the case, but I think it is unlikely... no significant use of the area in the 1900's save a few agricultural ditched. Plus it was on the top layer (hadn't even sunk in to the mud).

Looks like I found me a silver whatzit to add to the scrap silver pile...

Cool find:thumbsup:

I live just south of ya and I found two old late 19th early 20th century dump sites in a wheat field that I can walk to from my house. Every time the farmer tills the soil new things surface and I've done it all only using my eyeballs. I've found old spoons, harmonica reeds, clock parts, marbles, lots of busted bottle, iron objects and even a ring of the period. It may not look these days as if our area had any history, but it's there and folks walk over it all the time. I'll post this old map of our home turf. Just have a look at all the little towns between Denver & Longmont that are no longer around. IMO this is an excellent area to hunt relics if you take the time and do a little research. Sad part though it's all disappearing very fast with all these new developments going on around here. :(

Neat lookin' map Tam! I have two dumps I'm working through as well, but most of my finds have been bottles. Let me know if you ever want to meet up and check out a dump, walk a field or swing a detector!
