SILVER CANE HANDLE

While hunting the canal area of middletown ohio with my whites 6000 di series two detector I found this old cane handle.It is personalized with the initials E E B on top and stamped sterling.Construction along the canal route brought this artifact to the surface.If anyone has any idea of the age or history of this handle it would be greatly appreciated.Thanks and good luck hunting.

or a sterling doorknob..LOL Just kidding ? That is one nice find ?Definetly a cane top, is there any makers marks on it anywhere? it may be impossible to ID without makers initials or something. ?Unless someone gets lucky and finds the pattern.

Victorian walking sticks were a part of the "correct" attire of the elegantly dressed gentleman, who would change a cane as often as they changed their clothes. By the late 19th century, the Victorian influence had spread to the United States, finding the fashionable American gentleman in possession of several canes for different occasions and social events. These walking sticks typically had simple gold or silver mushroom handles and were rather mundane in appearance.

Now if you could trace the original owners family...that would be neat....As its mongrammed with his initials...he was possibly of the towns social set and would be easily recognozed through the historic society photos or records ....just a thought
