I got a permission to hunt only the gravel driveway at an older house. Wasn't what I had in mind when I asked, but I'll search wherever I can. Ended up doing better than I thought I would.
But that nickel with the strange copper color...
New one on me.

Congratulations on another great outing
13 silvers this year is amazing
I’m looking forward to getting out there when the ground thaws some
Take care

Congrats on the great finds ! :icon_thumleft:

Driveways and Parking areas are often overlooked as far as metal detecting goes.
I always carry two different size Screwdrivers in my detecting box for digging in these areas.
Screwdrivers usually work better than a diggers in packed stone.
There's also less of a chance of damaging the target.

That war nick is a strange colour for sure...you often hear about someone finding a silver or mercury plated copper cent from a school science experiment presumably..I wonder if this was the same but different lol...a copper plating on a silverish coin
I guess other than that it could have been a reaction from something in the gravel or soil

Something I've never seen or noticed before..curious find !

I would not think to hunt a gravel driveway. Your hunt sure paid off!
The golden color on the nickel looks uniform. I'd guess it is a reaction with some chemical like an iron salt. It might, for example, been near rusted iron.

The composition of war nickels is 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese. I've had some that have a slight copper-ish tint to them. Like mentioned by Almy, probably brought out the color because of environmental factors
