Found this broach in the same wooded area behind a friend's house where a button was found earlier. The broach measures 1 inch outside to outside and 3/4 inch inside to inside, the back is flat and the front is rounded, not sure if the pin was made in that snake shape or bent by accident. broach.jpgbroach open.jpgbroach pin.jpgThat button was posted on this site and identified by Crusader, as a British Dandy button. If anyone has an idea about it's age, I would appreciate your input. This area is very near where I have found trade items given to the Native Americans during the Revolution and War of 1812 period. Native cabins were close to this property and were burned during the Burning of Lewiston in December of 1813, so there has been activity in the area during that time period. Thanks for any help and thanks for looking.

That is a nice find - really tough to pinpoint the age without some hallmarks - I'm guessing you've been over it from stem to stern checking
for a mark .

In England that would be a Silver Annular Brooch there are many types, and date back to the medieval period, no idea what yours dates to, but I would have thought some were around 18th century.

Thanks for the input! I was hoping that it was an Indian trade item but wanting is not being certain. I could not see any hallmarks on it, but the find location points to it being Indian related. HH Lloyd
