Silver at the laundromat

I’ve been working away from home since April. Every time I go to do my laundry, I check my quarters for the W mintmark. I haven’t found one yet. But yesterday I heard the clink of silver in the change machine. It turned out to be a 2000 S Virginia quarter.

San Francisco minted regular proofs and silver proofs for every state. For VA, the mintage was around 4M and 1M, respectively.

Man I did that as a kid. Space invaders just came out and all the kids in the neighborhood crowded around that game all day. It was quite the event. I had to come up with some money so I cut up Gmas packaged coins, they sure were shiny and cashed them in for change. Not the quarter of course. These were all early silver proofs. Who knew?
