It is signed "Sterling MA" in cursive on the back and weighs 17 grams, measures 3 inches long by 2 inches wide. The stone I know if onyx, but there seems to be at least 3 metals, sterling, copper, and maybe brass? Part of me wonders if it is gold or gold filled, but I can't tell. It does not stick to a magnet and google image search is not giving me anything. Any help would be appreciated. HH

Morning Glory Collects

I googled MA sterling. If you search the page for "MA Jewelry" it is about a 3rd of the way down the page. It says
W.E. Richards is an Attleboro, MA jewelry maker 1900-present

Maybe you can search this guy? It is an interesting pin.

Maybe it's made in Sterling Massachusetts

Nice buy. Thanks for sharing...

DONT THINK IT WOULD BE COPPER AND BRASS - THEY BOTH TURN GREEN WITH HUMAN WEAR
MOST LIKELY YELLOW GOLD AND ROSE GOLD

Obviously a home made, or custom jewelry piece. Seems unlikely that if the maker used real gold, he would only inscribe it with sterling.

I agree that with that signature it is an artisan made piece.
Also, there are many pieces of jewelry made out of a combination of brass, copper, and sterling. Popular back in the 70's I believe and gaining popularity again if i'm not mistaken. I would say no to it being gold myself.
