Had a fun day detecting and did some sifting in an old garbage pit by an old cabin site. 2013-05-23 09.22.18.jpgFound some cool marbles, a die maybe clay, the lable off an old whiskey cask, a BONE fork, (which I have never fathomed that somone would make out of bone!) and some other goodies that I'm not sure about. The clip thingy has a monogram "E" on it, but I'm not sure what it was for. Maybe an early paper clip for a sheaf of papers? Or a book mark? Donno, but I like it!2013-05-23 09.22.38.jpg2013-05-23 09.22.51.jpg2013-05-23 09.23.02.jpg2013-05-23 09.23.13.jpg2013-05-23 09.23.32.jpg2013-05-23 09.23.52.jpg2013-05-23 09.24.26.jpg

How old? I did not find it in the garbage pit. It was about 100ft away from where I was sifting.

Hello ZIM,

Nice group of diverse finds, sir. I like the latticino & bennington marbles. How long is that fork?

The clip looks like gutta percha from here. Is it light in weight?

I'm liking that bone fork! Could be a rarity. Anything bone that has survived the elements is a cool find. The old lighter is cool too. I wonder if that clip is for money? Looks a little like Bakelite..
All good stuff!
Congrats!

The clear marble with swirls is a handmade German marble, collectible if its in good shape. Nice finds.

Yes it is light, I think it is made of bakelite or such type material....what is a "gutta percha?!?"

Hello ZIM,

Here's the wiki version: Gutta-percha It's a material not unlike Bakelite or Celluloid, though natural latex hard rubber. It has the natural color of your clip. Countless Daguerreotype cases were made in gutta percha.

"Vintage Victorian Gutta Percha Carved Pendant

As you know, good conditioned Gutta Percha is becoming quite scarce, but here we have a superb example with a dimensional, highly carved woman’s visage. This exquisite piece measures 2 3/8” x 1 5/8” and, as mentioned, is in excellent condition." Fine Jewelry

Those are some really nice finds. I'd love to have any of those items in my collection.

Cheers,

Buck
