I’ve been chipping away at some property which the maps show as promising but has given only broken iron and cans. This morning I dug this humble sickle bar tooth guard (that’s what I think it is). It’s the first sign of life in this property. I may be asking the impossible, but does anyone know a general date range? Thanks for viewing and have a great weekend! image.webp

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Yes, it's a sickle bar section guard. I'm thinking the sickle bar mower was invented in the late 1800s. It is still being used. So it's difficult or impossible to date. There often is a maker's mark impressed into the metal. Ones I have used or found have had Ford and International Harvester (IH) labels. One like McCormick Deering would be older. If you can find a label, it might help determine a date range.

Thanks for the reply Almy! I’m gonna give it a good vinegar bath and see if I can find a mark.
