Hi GIB. Go with SS. They are more expensive and heavier but you'll never have that happen. Mine is almost 15 years old and looks like new after VERY heavy use.

That looks like more of a dry sand scoop then wet sand. I have owned the Beach Brute, and then the Beach Brute II, never come close to bending either of the handles, both of the handles are wide and thick.

The one shown was a tent pole and broke :(
Since replaced with a shovel handle, which holds up fine.
