Hi all,

They're saying it could get to 104 degrees today. I went out right after the kids left for school so I could beat the heat. First I went out to the ball fields and checked the grass near the concession stand. I hunted that area to death a few months ago, but was able to pick up close to $5 in quarters.

Next I headed to the park to check the sand areas that had swings etc. and found tons of pennies, along with a few dimes and a quarter or two. At the end of the sand pit there was this big tree, so I checked around it and found the biggest thing I've ever pulled up so far..a full sized shovel!

I was surprised to see one of the pennies I found was a wheat..a '58-D. It was so clean that I think it was amongst the hoard I found in the sand at the park..there must have been 20 or more all in one place. Apparently some older coins are still in circulation.

I was done by 10:30, so in about 2 hours I found 114 coins..19 quarters, 8 dimes, 4 nickels, and 83 pennies, including the wheat.

Nice finds and it must have been difficult digging up that digger. The kids are back to school??? Up here in Mass they are not due back until Sept. 4th. Keep them coming Nat.

Hi Roy, the shovel was at the end of the sand pit near the tree, so I just grabbed it and pulled. It's not even dirty, just had sand stuck to it.

Believe it or not, the first day of school here was yesterday..it would have been Monday, but a storm Sunday night left many of the schools in the district without power.

Cool finds!
We got started in the hobby a few months ago and are having a blast.
Our forth trip out my daughter Lyndee pulled out a shovel too.
She dug for ever to get it out.

Make it a great day!

Way to go!!

I am planning a hunt Labor Day weekend and the only goal I am setting is 100 coins on Saturday and 50 on Sunday.

I found a little shovel two nights ago, no where near as cool as the one you found.

That's funny!

Congrats on the shovel!

You should have seen me as I was leaving the park..I was dripping wet, I had that shovel in my left hand and my MD in my right..glad the park ranger wasn't around, he may have gotten the wrong idea :D

Thanks for the replies..Chris, glad you're out having fun..this hobby pays for itself in more ways than one..it's like you're being paid to have a good time!
