i don't know whats missing but, just my 2cents worth. i too have bought guns at yard sales
and a couple things you should do:

ALWAYS get a receipt with serial #, address and signed by the seller even if you have to go back where you bought it.

ALWAYS take the info (*NOT THE ACTUAL GUN*) to the police or gun shop and do a serial # search to make sure its not stolen.

in Oregon, the police tell us that if we offer this info and the gun report comes back as used in a crime or stolen, the police could go back on the seller with charges. they will also confiscate the gun but who really cares at this point when your freedom is at stake.

if we don't offer the info, and we get caught with the reported stolen gun at a later date, all the charges are filed on the buyer.

*the police react funny when you walk in with a gun*

i think it may be the right bolt but the firing pin, case extractor are missing from it.

it looks to be a long tom aka goose gun.

I have a broken bolt action Kessler shotgun that someone gave me. It has a clip. Its a very inexpensive gun. I recognize the bolt. It is the same. I need to dig it out of my warehouse and see what is missing. Mine is 12 gauge but may be the same.

I believe that this Kessler model may also have been made as a Montgomery Ward "Western Field" model; so, you might check around for pics, parts, etc. that way, too.

Looks like the extractor is missing for sure. (That's what hooks the rim of the fired case and pulls it out of the chamber). Go to www.e-gunparts.com (Nurmrich Gun Parts) and you should be able to get fixed up. Monty

OK mojjax, I found my old Kessler 12 gauge. It seems you are missing quite a bit. Too bad mine is a different gauge or I would sell you mine. I found this gun all rusted and with a broken stock crudely screwed together. I dissassembled and wire wheel brushed it about 20 years back and cold blued it to the best of my ability. It seems I am missing something in the back. My bolt comes out of the gun when I pull back on it.. I bought the c clip safety piece online but I think Im still missing a part (besides the stock). I was going to make a wood stock but I found out it is a poor quality gun with little value so I gave up and put it in storage. Do you have an extra stock? :D Here are the pics. (We must have a big server here at TN with all the pics we post)

Thanks for going through the trouble of digging that out of storage Bigcypress , it helps me out alot . And thanks Monty , Dozer , PBK ! I'm in no hurry in getting it all together , but now I have an idea what to keep my eyes open for .
I do have a reciept for it around here some where - that's great advice , Dozer !
It is a cheap gun from what I've read , but there's nothing wrong with having a spare shotgun under the bed !
thanks everybody!

Can I see a pic of the back of your bolt? Whenever I eject mine the bolt comes completly out of the gun.

I just noticed that I cold blued everything including my bolt. I see your bolt isnt blued in its original state.

Mojjax, dont know if you noticed but at the site posted by Monty you can buy schematics for guns including yours for about 3$ they will email them, pdf file.

I think the part you are missing is called a bolt sleeve.

try pushing the trigger forward with one hand while taking the bolt out with the other.
it shouldn't come out. if that's the case, it should be a simple job of replacing the trigger spring.

If I push the trigger foward the bolt will not come out. But if I pull the trigger (dry fire the gun) the bolt will come right out when I eject.. Are you suggesting I need to replace the trigger spring? ???

the bolt should come out only when the trigger is mechanically pulled. the trigger spring should
hold the trigger forward keeping the bolt from coming out without pulling the trigger.

The bolt comes out after I pull the trigger and try to eject the shell. The bolt comes completely out of the gun. I dont know what the trigger spring looks like. I dont see one. The trigger is loose with nothing to hold it forward. Do you think it is inside the bolt assembly or is it missing?MVC-003S.webp

Here are more pics of the bolt for mojjax. I tried to remove the part you need but the bolt is pinged in in two places to prevent removal but it swivels completely around..
Mojjax, can I see a pic of the back of your bolt to see what I am missing? Does your bolt come completely out of the gun when you try to eject a shell?

Her are a few pictures of my bolt . I have to squeeze the trigger for it to slide out of the gun . As you can see , it has no firering pin .

OK I see you're missing parts on the back end as well as the firing pin end. So it is no help to me. Thanks.
