No, it looks like a musket ball, US Civil War period or earlier. By the time the Civil War started the bullets became cylindrical not round and by the 1870's almost all guns were made to fire cartridges. Check out the local history and it might be military or could be someone had been out deer hunting.

Looks like a fired roundball used in a rifle or pistol.
IF it was used in a smooth bore it had a good seal/patch . And not a big bore size.
A roundball could be used in a shotgun though.
.490 is around 50 caliber. 490-495 . Patch thickness factors .
A bored out to smooth worn out 50 would be a smallbore smooth bore.
and caliber Vs guage must be compared..
Around 20 guage on up seems more "normal" to me on older smoothbore guns. So I'd want to know average 20 guage ball size to compare to your piece.
