I assume this is just a modern type shotgun slug.
I don't know my ammo.

The star on the tip seemed strange to me. Anyone?

Definitely a modern shotgun slug, federal royal star perhaps?

Thanks for the help folks!

All this talk about shooting reminded me of a time I was out with my former partner. He really, really knew what he was doing! We started finding bullets and fragments of same. After about 10 or 20 of them he stood up and started looking off in the distance. I asked what he was looking for and he told me that we had found one end of the range. Now, we needed to find the other end, where all the betting was being done.

He started off in a direction and pacing off a distance. I asked, (feeling quite the neophyte), "Why in that direction?"

He said, "Easy, all of the broken glass is on that side of the log."

He walked 50 to a hundred feet and started finding shells. Then, of all things, a seated half dollar! WOW!
I miss him SO!

Anyway, thanks again for all the help!
