We decided to split our time between the 2 nearby Sites again.
Started on Shot Gun Alley in the morning & my first dig was the hammered short-cross, normally this would be the Kiss Of Death....but at the end of that first run I got another cut hammered laying on the top. Turned around for the next run & got the Saxon Brooch. It mostly slowed up from there.
3 hours 45 mins:
3 Scrappies
Bent Spec. Buckle
Strange ancient Hedgehog looking thing:icon_scratch: Bronze Age/Iron Age Moustache Fitting
Cut hammered of Henry III
King John Hammered Penny, Miles of Oxford (A mint I haven't had yet):icon_thumright:
6th C AD Saxon Small-Long Brooch (Most complete Saxon Brooch this year)8-)

After lunch we did 2 hours 45 mins on The Trackway Site:

5 Scrappies
Crotal Bell
18th C Pewter Military Button (unknown)
Saxon Clothes Fastener

On the journey to The Trackway Site via 'The Hill', I got a broken bit of Saxon Tweezers.
OTWBTTC on 'The Hill' I found half of a 11th C Viking Strap-end. (Type I need)8-)

Congrats to Land-Mag who helped our leading land-owner to find some missing keys today. (important ones that had a £600 e-fob on it):hello2:

Outstanding!!! Congrats!!!

Lots of nice finds there. Congrats.

Such great finds. I always look forward to your posts

The mystery Hedgehog shaped object gave me a headache yesterday. I was sure I had seen it before & that it had to do with Moustache's. But I couldn't find it until this morning.
Their date and function are still unknown & debated at this site where one was donated:

Here is a complete version:

Here is one like what I found (including the hollowed reverse):

Love those hammered silvers!

This Viking strap end had made my day.... What is the difference between Roman and Saxon tweezers?

Very good question.
Not a lot, very similar.
Saxon tends to have a wider wedge, & this has several ring & dot designs.
I could flip a coin, but I'm going with Saxon.

Ok. I hoped for an easy ID between Roman and early medieval here. So, it's more about the feeling holding it in hand. Experience is the correct way. :occasion14:

Great finds Crusader, congrats! King John opted for the stare instead of the profile. The mustache item and the links you gave are interesting. Still a mystery item.

Brooch is first rate and congrats on a new mint represented! Hadn’t heard of that mint before

Nice finds indeed!

All the best,

Lanny

THANKS EVERYONE.

Just getting ready to return to see what else we can squeeze out.

If you mean this year, not over 70 yet, close to. (Cru'dad has the figures)

your hammerds and your staters are the highlights of these postings

Now have an ID for - ''Strange ancient Hedgehog looking thing:icon_scratch: Bronze Age/Iron Age Moustache Fitting''
Since I found a complete one today;

(Note to Cru'dad to update the database with correct ID)
