I posted this 5 years ago and thought I would repost to see if anyone can ID it. While going through my finds, I found a musket ball that I am ALMOST positive came from the same area. The ball has a deformity on one end that makes it slightly teardrop shaped. It would have to be forced through the hole, so not sure if it pierced this item.
What the heck is it? Coin, token, button? It's fairly thin. It appears there was no printing on the back, but it might just be terribly worn. If you can't read it, it says United States of America with a circle of stars just inside the text. It is dated 1882 at the bottom. If I had to guess, I still think it is a button with the back missing.
