I just ordered the 10"x12" S.E.F. coil from Kellyco on Monday. It showed up today, and between the sweltering, muggy, heat, and the torrential afternoon rain storm, I was able to go out and do a small little test with a silver quarter, and a .69 caliber musket ball.
I had looked high and low for reviews on these coils, but not much on them....not on the F-75 anyway.....So since they were on sale this week, I decided to give it a shot.
First off, I must say that this size weighs close to the stock DD coil on the F-75...I didn't weigh them, but they felt close. The cord was the perfect length to wrap around the shaft and plug in without a bunch of extra cable to have to tie down. That was nice that I didn't have to wrap it too tight, or strap it down to keep it from falsing.
It came with the nylon nut and bolt to attach it, plus Kellyco added a set in the order, so now I have a couple of spares!
This was a short test just to see what the differences were between the coils.
I started out with the machine (F-75 SE) on the "DE" Process, disc on 5, with a Fast Grab ground balance. Let me just say, that the machine was real "chattery" today! Could have been the storm brewing overhead...it was very electrical...or some interference from power lines, or whatever, but it was unstable at high sensitivity settings.
Stock coil.
Silver quarter buried at 8 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=good signal.
Sensitivity at 99=good signal.
Silver quarter buried at 10 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=no signal.
Sensitivity at 99=weak signal.
SEF coil
Silver quarter buried at 8 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=good signal.
Sensitivity at 99=good signal.
Silver quarter buried at 10 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=weak signal.
Sensitivity at 99=good signal.
SEF coil with detector set on "all metal" and sensitivity at 99, quarter at 10 inches=faint signal.
Stock coil.
.69 cal. musket ball at 8 inches=decent signal.
.69 cal. musket ball at 10 inches= weak signal (probably wouldn't dig).
Same at 80 and 99 sensitivity.
SEF coil.
.69 cal. musket ball.
buried at 8 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=decent signal.
Sensitivity at 99=good signal.
.69 cal. musket ball buried at 10 inches.
Sensitivity at 80=no signal.
Sensitivity at 99=poor signal. (would dig)
All metal mode, sensitivity at 99, buried at 10 inches=good signal.
I will note that with the SEF coil, the 10 inch quarter would still register at 13 and 14 inches when lifting the coil off of the ground.
Also the chatter quieted down some with the SEF coil....it was gone altogether with sensitivity at 85.
It was well balanced and felt stable on the detector.
We'll see how it does in the field, when I get the chance to go over some old ground with few signals left....
It does seem to boost performance, but I need some different conditions to see just how much...It definitely covers more ground.
I like it so far......
