Hey guys, no long story here today, I basically have a honey-do list about a bagillion miles long and got most of it done today and made a deal with the wife, let me finish it tomorrow in exchange for goin digging today, she obliged lol:laughing7:

Im working on this house that no one lived in for at least 10 yrs, I found where the owner lives and asked him the other day, he seemed ok with it except hes worried about liability?:icon_scratch: as if I would get hurt on his property or something. so I made a waiver stating basically that if anything should happen although highly unlikely I release them of any and all liabilities. Seems like it should work, only problem, no one was there to deliver the note to.

Off to plan b

it was a 30s house that sat in front of some Faith-based school so I knocked and a young guy answered and gave me the ok, so I start swinging and hit the 2 wheat spill right away,
within 10 minutes I hit the 1934 Washington and thought, wow this place has major potential SAM_1119.JPG SAM_1121.JPG

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttt, shortly after that the guy comes back out and says
"maybe I should clear it with my landlord first" I said no problem and thanked him and went on my way to that park from the other day again, nothing too exciting, just some clad and the dollar coin, My first!

That makes silver #28 on the year, man im having so much fun this year!!!
thanks for looking and HH!!

Silver is always a great day!

Congratulations on the Washington. He still has a lot of life left in him. Pretty nice shape.

Awesome hunt! Congrats! Love getting on old props!

You have been having all the luck here lately. Good job and Congrats on the quarter.

Awesome silver... as usual.

Hey i was wondering, you get permission to hunt someone's yard right? But do you negotiate about the keeping of the finds right there and then? I was wondering because why would these people not want these coins and what were to happen if you found something really valuable?

Honestly most of the people who gave me permission don't even care to see what I find. I always tell them I'll show them everything I find before I leave. nobody has asked me to keep anything I found yet. even the sterling ring I found the other day with what I thought was a diamond. I only had one person request to see everything and I thought she was going to ask me to keep my only seated and barber dimes I ever found. I was sweating that one out until she said " oh that's nice but it seems like so much work for such a little reward". but during my pitch when I'm trying to get permission I always say I'll give you whatever you want that I find, seems to work for me and hasn't backfired yet.

hope this helps

thanks for looking and HH!!

Of all the things you're finding make sure you don't lose that one. The "having so much fun" part. If you hold onto that, everything else will fall
into place!

Good job!

I just hope you never have to confront that "backfire". As selfish as it might seem, when I'm out there doing ALL the work, I expect so leniency in what I choose to keep. Threshold touched on the aspect, of a sort. After all, project down the road. You get permission, you dig for hours and "on the way back to the car", you finally turn up that 20 dollar gold piece that Abe lost on his way back from Gettysburg. Now, do you STILL show them EVERY-thing???? ;)

Just my thought. LOL

Well see, now thats a tough one. Id have a hard time letting go of that so In all honesty, no id probly choose to not show them that, heck I did all the work and if I never detected their yard, itd be lost forever. I cant remember who, but someone here on tnet had to give up EVERYTHING they found, including what if I remember correct were a couple 1600s coins. Thats a tough pill to swallow, they shouldve been allowed to keep at least one! This might open up a huge debate but its just my opinion. I understand integrity and all that but if you aren't a collector or history buff, why not just let the person detecting keep what they find? dont get me wrong, giving someone something back they once lost is an amazing feeling but a couple measly coins that you could care less about shouldnt be a big deal. Now if were talking huge gold hoard, yes id likely show them, and actually request that they take it, in exchange for 1 or 2 for myself of course. I wouldnt want what happened to those people in California who might have to give up their huge gold hoard they found.
Heck I was a nervous wreck thinking that lady would want to keep my barbers and seated!!!:laughing7:

Thats my thoughts, id love to hear what others think on the matter.
Hope it doesnt make me sound greedy

I try hard not to be greedy and to return what I can identify. BUT, this next story sort of sets my tone on even that, for you see, I found a rather nice high school ring once. It looked brand new. It also had one of those long, very unique, polish names inscribed. I figured it might be unique enough and sure enough, only one in the phone book. (yes, this was back that far! :) )

I called him up and after explaining and him identifying the ring. We met. He showed me the replacement ring he'd bought some 30 years before and it was almost completely worn down. The one I found? Brand new! He told me thanks, shook my hand, and took the ring and left.

Like I said, I was quite a bit younger and really needed the money I could've gotten for scrap gold. I guess I expected a reward, something!! I got a handshake.

Wam bam, thank you ma'am! ;)

From then on, if I find something, it's MINE first. Then, maybe, we can have a discussion. (I have returned rings since then but I don't spend a lot of time researching the owners. If it's obvious, ok. Otherwise ...)

There's my take on the whole business of my doing all the work to "give" something back. :)

Sorry to jump in, but in continuance of what you just said....Last year I returned my first class ring I found. It had been stolen from the young lady and then thrown out the window ( this is just my supposition ) because the ring had the name of the owner on the side. Would have been hard to pawn because of the unusual name ( Callie ). The young lady was very happy. Took my name, address and phone number. I never heard from her again! I thought I might get a thank you card or a Christmas card, but nope! My second class ring found~I made every effort to find the owner again. Went to the library and looked in the yearbook. Found 2 guys with the first and last initials. Neither of them had the middle initial! I went back to the library. Looked up women's names....none had those initials. I worked with a fellow from that class who said no one had died before graduation with those initials. I did what I could. I now consider it mine, lol.

My thoughts exactly guys! Make an effort and if nothing, congrats it's yours!!
