Was able to get away today for a short hunt. I spent most of my time probing about 25-50 ft from an old well when i finally felt some abrasive articles under the surface. Must have been a very small trash pit. Everything i found was broken. Anyone that recognizes these pcs please let me know what they were. There were 2 broken bottle remains from Chicago that appeared to be bitters. I would have found one intact because they appeared to be square in shape with long necks

Then i saw this. Could it be an intact bottle?

Thanks for looking everyone. If UncleMac hadn't mentioned his good luck son this morning i probably would not have found a whole bottle (lol). Any ID on the brokes would be appreciated

I figured out what the bitters was... Bucklen & Co. Chicago, Ill, Electric Bitters

The shards are from an Electric bitters H.E. Bucklen & Co. Chicago ILL. You are right about the shape of it. Hope you find a whole one. Sorry by the time I saw your second post I had already posted. Sorry.

nice find your doing better then i am right now im probably done until the spring thaw its -7 today and just got a foot of snow.

Beautiful bottle bass assassin.Did it have much gunk inside and how did you clean it?

Thanks bottleworm, we must have been typing responses at the same time. Relicdude, sorry to hear about your weather conditions. When i got up this morning it was 30 degrees outside, it warned up to about 45-50 today and it was perfect weather for digging. Coilygirl, i clean the outside with a piece of scotchbrite scouring pad and hot water/soap. I clean the inside with copper shot (small cut pieces of copper wire) and liquid barkeepers friend. Put both in the bottle and put my thumb over the top and let the shaking begin. I always inspect the bottle first to see if there are any large air bubbles on the inside wall of the bottle. Shaking too vigorously could possibly break an air bubble. Like i said, add the contents and let the shaking begin. Here's a sample of the copper shot

Thanks for the tips on cleaning but is copper shot the same thing as copper BB's? where can you get Barkeepers Friend?

Copper bb's are ok to use. The copper shot i use is cut up copper wire and it seems to do a better job because of the flat surfaces and sharp edges. The angles on the cut wire work better on bottles that are rectangular or square by getting down in the corners. Since the bb's are round, they can't work the cornets as well.

If you don't have access to some copper wire, Harry Pristis had a thread on making your own bottle brushes. His technique works very well too.
