...and only preforms to show for it. Yes, Sir mighty sparse pickins'. There has not been a rip snortin', frog strangler, of a rain for some time in the area I hunt. Funny though, these pieces are large and I don't know how they have been missed all these trips.

DSC00609.webp DSC00613.webp 2nd pic shows an edge that was added later. a cutting edge on a preform? why? I think it was used as is.

DSC00616.webp this is the 2nd piece found and it has been worked a little later than the first. although it was thin in the first place a couple chunks were removed anyway. Why? To lighten the load? Not. Again I believe used as is.

DSC00614.webp

this one shows work on the tip that was totally unnecessary for a preform and would probably have been removed in the final tool making process. (I found this one years ago but in the same place)

my final thoughts...maybe preforms were both used as a preform for tools, as well as in the buff (as is) for less detailed work.

I believe they used them as is and then later changed them for another use. If they needed a point they would just change it at that time of need. Scrapers then changed them to other tools. I like the tools you found, rock

Those are some real nice finds and I go along with your thinking:icon_thumleft:

Yes sir I love the large bifaces great finds !!!!

You never know what's gonna make its way to the surface on a spot you have walked over and over! Great finds, I know I wouldn't have left any of them behind. Pieces like these always make me wonder, was that how they were meant to be made and used? Were they in the process of bringing them to camp and dropped them, or threw them down to chase a deer, or perhaps they were attacked themselves?

Is there any way to date items like these? Kind of off topic, but I personally find it had to believe that the Clovis were some of the first natives to our country, but I guess that's just me.
