Short hunt on new land & back to our Fav's...

Cru'Dad & I travelled to our furthest away land (a massive 45 minutes away). We started detecting near a church which the ploughed field surrounds on 2 sides.

We only managed 1 hour before Cru'dad got worried about car which had a problem that needed fixing. So we decided to detect closer to home so that if the car died we could a least walk. :D

Only had a couple of Geo coppers, £1, buckle & a lead weight? at a spade depth in solid clay :P

(picture 1 is all the rubbish buttons & roman pottery shards off all 3 sites)

Nice stuff Cru. I like the lead weight, any idea what it is?
And glad to see you are still finding buttons. I sort of have a hate/like feeling about them, every once in a while you find a great one, but the other 99% are just plain old iron ones. But they do tell something about the land.... You got some nice stuff that is for sure!

The lead weight might be something else. I have no idea really. i found it in the field near the church boundry so I'm hoping its not a poor mans grave marker :P :-X

Its 3000 acres of land which we got permission last year to hunt. I was doing a display of finds & this pretty bird offered me her boyfriend dad's farm to detect (I never asked). Its never been detected (unless without permission). It borders 3 churches, a large hill over looking a roman road & is suppose to have a villa on it. We have found no evidence of the Villa & the land around the churches has so far been fruitless. Its going to take years to find the hotspots. They are massive fields.

OK about the lead. It seems to be a nice piece. Funny I always like to find lead things, some are very interesting!
Yes 3000 acres, it will take some time to find all the hot spots, you are correct about that...
