I've known about an old tannery that shows up on an old 1861 map.... decided today to scout it out a bit. We quickly located the site and scanned around for about 45 minutes through brush, briars, and thick matted together grass. Quickly concluded that this site may best be hit in the spring after the snow pushes the vegetation flat.

Anyhow, we found these two goodies before we departed... the tongue was in the buckle before I started to clean it up. >:(

FWIW I did have a third good hit on the Etrac that I did not recover... something sounded really interesing but I was down to my elbow without any hint of it on the pinpointer. Since the hole was filling with water I decided to save that one for the bigger shovel on another day.

EDIT: Added second picture.

Yep, a nice near complete one!

I think we're do for one of those here, been quite a while since we even got a good size chunk, at least I haven't in a few years.

Nice whole spigot.

Wolverine,

Thanks. :) Was somewhat surprised to see how scarce it is to find a complete tap in the posts. Did some searching to try to date it and only found parts, no whole ones (within this site anyway). ???

I don't know but perhaps the two of us can discover more answers to the mystery! :icon_thumright:

Yep, aside from the very tip of one of the handles its almost 100%. Close enough for me!

With your relic hunting expertise, there is no doubt your Explorer will sniff one out soon! :notworthy:

There's actually a piece missing that was on top and connected to the handle. I have only seen one dug that it was ever intact and I bought it. (Was sold a while later)

The near complete barrel tap is killer! :headbang:

Very nice barrel tap, I haven't found one as intact as that and I live in the land of beer, Germany. Looks like you have a nice site to hunt, hope some great finds come up for you! HH, Mike

Very nice find. I bet you the site is hidding other nice finds.

You certainly know more about these relics than me... :notworthy: but what aside from part of the "T" handle is missing? I've looked it over and do not see any other broken spots. My curiosity is peaked... just want to learn for future reference. :)

A picture of the other side has been added if that helps.

Thanks!

Well according to my research this site was first inhabited by Germans... maybe I got your find!
