After reading all the posts of creek finds and enthusiasm lately I decided to take advantage of a slow day at work. I'd been eyeballing this creek that runs under the highway on my way to work. There's a river bluff on one side of the highway . Twenty five Years ago , give or take, I had walked over that bluff in route to the woods behind it, I was ginseng hunting at the time. The owner had just bulldozed the softwood growth off of the face of the bluff to make new cow pasture. There were bones everywhere, I picked up one whole cranium, within 5 or10 minutes I found a whole mandible to go with it. There were Illinois river clam shell spoons everywhere but I didn't find a single stone artifact not even a scraper.
We didn't do much creek hunting back then because the fields gave better returns. With snow still on the ground here I thought I just might get lucky if the ice cover had melted off of the creek, especially with the burial site just a few hundred feet away. After spending about 45 minutes checking out everything of interest in the limited areas that weren't still covered with ice sheet I had nothing, so I headed back toward the highway. As I reached the highway I spotted the artifact shown below, it definitely shows some human workmanship and I'm sure it has some monetary value!
Next week I think I'll go catalytic converter hunting, perhaps I'll find an Indian artifact![emoji12]
