Short bags

I just returned $1000 in dimes obtain in boxes. Used a CU's coin counter.
It came up $4 short not including the silver I removed. The coin counter passed an early test I gave it, so I believe the count.

What level of inaccuracy of coin counts is expected in a bag?

Depends on when the coin is "counted" by the machine. If it is counted and then sorted, the dimes can easily get pushed into another bag... i.e. a dime will easily slip by and into the penny bag. I got a bag of halves off a machine once and it had all sorts of stuff in it. Bent pennies, bent dimes, bent quarters, tokens. I think I got shorted almost $20 on that bag.

Only one 40% in the entire bag, the bag came from a bank in ky, and I got it in ohio.
The Bag I got was 2 of 6. I called that bank and she did not know where they came from But she did say they got red of all theres. I bet it sounded weird To her that I got a bag from there in ohio. LOL

The most I've ever been shorted in a bag of halves was $47. There was a bunch of junk in the bag including a door key. Lucky for me I know someone that works at the bank and she vouched for me so they paid me the amount I was short. Other than that time I don't remember being more that a couple dollars short in halves.

My two cents...which is worth one...lol...when I started using a coin counter at a few different branches....I checked each machine at each branch for accuracy....they were all dead on (gotta love that).

I don't get bags often at all, but I seem to get toasted every time I get one....not bad (except once) mind you but still I come up short. It's aggravating because the silver you do pull from that bag is now not at face value....you have to add the shorted halves to that to figure out what you are paying for the silver halves.

Sorry I didn't even get close to answer your question...this is one of my pet peeves so I got on a roll.

My worst case was when I was shorted about $50 on an $800 bag. The silver I pulled and the returns did not come close to $800....oh well....live & learn....
