Shoe buckle/Saddle buckle!? 1700s?

Shoe buckle/Saddle buckle!? 1700's?

Scouted a new place today. It was coming in at 33-34 on the Safari which is copper range. about 1 1/8 inch wide and 1 1/8inch long Any help would be great.

VMI came found a very similar buckle here is the description. "D-Shaped brass buckle, probably from harness. On the curve there is a single groove close to the end and a V-shaped notch in the center to receive the tang. Post 1750." It is very similar but not exactly the same. If anyone can find it let me know...tryin to narrow down a date.

This one is actually older than you think. It appears to be similar in design to the copper alloy single loop buckles dating to the 17th century as shown in " Buckles 1250 - 1800" by Whitehead (p. 29). It could have been used for personal dress or with a horse harness. So you might be onto a very early site there. Nice find!

Thanks Bill! Looks like we two very good leads. Either way it bodes well for this site.
