Shipwrecks along beach(s) in Cali

Hi everyone! I posted this in the "Beaches" section, but I guess not a lot of people go to that section of the forum. So here it is again. I am a TH'er in PA and and traveling to California this year to visit my aunt who lives in Pinole Valley. And of course I'm taking my detector with me. I am hoping to find some stuff from shipwrecks that has washed up on the beech. If anyone knows of any good beaches around this area and would be nice enough to share some of them it would be a great help. Also, any tips on beach hunting would also help a lot as I have no knowledge of beach hunting. I have only been beech hunting once at Stinson Beach and found a lot of clad and a silver ring. That same trip out I went to a WW2 fort site at a park that I can't remember the name and found a WW2 land mine. Thanks! ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Matt

? ? ? Several years ago treasure salvers were going to try to recover treasure from a 16 or 1700's treasure galleon they said floundered and sank just off the point at Drakes Bay. ( Point Reyes area )
? ? Have'nt heard since, but pottery shards and odds and ends from that time period are still being found washed up on the beach there. I don't know if detectors are allowed or not.
? ? Also the beach down at Seaside ( just above Monterey ) copper coins from the same period from some sunken galleon just off shore, have been found washed up on the beach for years.
? ?We used to go there and screen the sand ( prefered method by most, but some found with detectors, including a buddy of mine )? ? Found a couple dozen over time along with gold rings and later era silver coins. To find the spot ask any one in town where the old beach cliff dump is,and your there. Any place up or down the beach from it for a hundred yards is good.
? ?A 100 yrs ago at that spot they used the cliff as a dump. Lot of nice bottles to be found there on the side of the cliff.
If you screen, shovel down through the dry sand until you hit a different colored layer. Then start screening and follow the layer.
? ?Also you might try the Cliff House beach in S.F.? Because of the old Sutro Baths there and an old amusement park that was across the highway from the beach. There's been a lot of old coins detected there.? ? ?Good luck? ? ? ? HH

Cornelius, what do you think would happen if I just showed up with my detector at Point Reyes and started detecting? After every good find I made I would run back to the car and hide the find in the car incase authoraties came. What do you think the cop/authorities would do if they seen me detecting there? Thanks! Matt

I love the sound advise by that old pirate..

In California we have a greedy state gov. with lots politically correct busy bodies so trying to do some honest treasure hunting is very difficult.

If you do it then do it super early in the morning or super late in the evening.
